ðſʒ ct fi ff st ß sz ſs ſt tz ts
TESTING ðſʒ
- Use of Old Portuguse habits such as superscript n (e.g. ano > ão for a crude example).
- Use of long-s (ſ) in clusters and various ligatures. E.g. ſs (ß), or even make that ſʒ (and similarly ts > tʒ).
Phonology
- Undergo changes remniscent of Western Romance languages. E.g. himmilaz > emmel, embla; braudą > broða (> brueða?); stuppa > stoppa > estuepa OR stuppa > estopa?
Vocabulary
- Loan in a whole bunch of words from Latin that aren't normally loaned in. E.g. equus > equa, jeva?
- Caballus > kvalla > qvalla; qvallaria, qvallera(s).
Grammar
- Loan in some inflections from Latin/Romance for prestige. E.g. -atis > -aðes/-eðis; maybe -us for -a and -a for -o:?
- Figure out prepositions.
Possible Example
"Eſʒaðes vus, qvalleri, bróðvm ã ẽa tabla? Saiaðe ð̃ eſʒ nõ eſt treivs, ð̃ ríðeri vã armaða, cneiti vã rei, eſʒãt bróðvm dereite úſʒ cvcĩa sîe fraĩia".
"Eſʒaðes vus, qvalleri, bróðvm ã ẽa tabla? Saiaðe ðs̃ eſʒ nõ eſt treivs, ðs̃ ríðeri vã armaða, cneiti vã rei, eſʒãt bróðvm dereite úſʒ cvcĩa sĩe fraĩia".
"Are you, cavaliers, eating bread on a table? Say that it isn't true, that horsemen of the army, servants of the king, are eating bread directly from the kitchen without asking".
POSSIBLE CHANGES:
- -aðes and -aðe merge
- de replaces or takes over some of the role of vã
- sĩe > sĩ?
- le, l' introduced as definite article?
- stress patterns established with acute? What about ríðeri? ríðerus, ríðarius? Hmmm... I like riðarius, quallarus also works I guess. Equarius, is that a legit word? (jevarius? eparius?)
- cucina, cocina, coqvina or what?
- make ã merged with at etc into à or á as a catch all preposition, and make uvar/sovre/super the "on" preposition? Or maybe just "op"? Maybe super > svper > sṽ > "su".
- Even though it's written ð̃, possibly in other less frequent cases ð > d, like in OHG. Thus only intervocalic d should become ð.
Eccletic Texts
Too lazy to write a coherent grammar. Other people can just imagine it based on these texts, surely.
War - Bellvm
- For allvm õder cielvm nos féitãvm devémus
- For all under heaven, we must fight (motto?)
- Cneiti : soldati, riðeri, eqvetes, eqvari
- Knights: soldiers, riders, master of horses, horsemen (proto-thesaurus entry?)
Misc
- Dẽx roſʒvlvs qvemat roſʒeau et roſʒl ; l' corda citéʒanalia [..] úſʒã torvani vorða eſʒant[..] séʒant ðs̃ ella nõ svnt nova.
- Out of "rossulus" came "rosseau" and "rossl"; the citizenry's hearts [..] but [torvan]s eat words [..] [they] say that they are not new. (reflection on language change or regionalisms, possible register differences?)
Possible contemporaneous languages (is that even a word?
Strange Germanic Tongue
- cneita, cneitour ; qvéno, qvénou, qvenour ; lãda, ląda, landour ; naita, neitour ; courda, courdour ; déa, dézour
- neit, neitour ; qvén, qvénour ; land, landour ; nait, naitour ; courd, courdour ; dé, dézour ~ knight, dame, land, night, heart, day?
- jour, diour ~ animals?
- tourva, tourvour ~ tourf, tourvour ~ town
- maida, maid, mait, maidour, maido, maidou ~ boy, girl?
- teï-lovour ~ [te]y-leaves?
Maybe a greek something somewhere?
- κνειτα, κνειτωρ -- κυηνου -- λαδα
- ουομινε, βενα, λανδον, νοχτις
