Cápa
Alternative forms
Some Cápa speakers, especially in the Parow neighbourhood of Cape Town, pronounce the word as /ʃokǁoɫát͡ʃi/ or /ʃokǁoɫát͡ɕe/, as is generally the pattern in Brazilian Portuguese. This phenomenon is most likely due to most of the Parow neighbourhood's inhabitants being of Brazilian origin, specifically of the city of São Paulo.
Etymology
From Portuguese chocolate.
Pronunciation
(Cápa) IPA: /ʃokǁʼoláti/
Noun
shoxoláti
- chocolate
