Alternative forms
bycáky (bycáky) — nonstandard
Etymology
Shortened from earlier bycáky (bycáky), borrowed from Ottoman Turkish بیچاق (bıçak). Compare Romanian briceag and Serbo-Croatian бичак (bičak). Supplanted native blas (blas) in its culinary senses, such that while cáky refers specifically to a culinary cutting knife, blas can be used to refer to cleavers or machetes.
Pronunciation
- IPA: /ˈt͡ʃa.kɨ/
Noun
cáky (cáky) f (plural cakš, definite cákun, relational adjective cácɛin)
- knife (culinary utensil)
