Nurian made more Maltese + Latvian + Sámi + Old English; modern Bjeheondian sprachbund features

Windermere: brits Nur

Short vowels after nongeminates syncope

mh nh ngh > pm tn kng clusters

Fem ending becomes -a

PTal *ph > f rather than 0 as in all the other Talmic branches (because Maltese/Old English)

þ đ for dental stops, t d for alv/retro stops; t d should color preceding e to eo etc. like r would in Old English

i e/a u ī ē ā ū ie uo ai au > e æ/a o i īe ēo ý īe ū ā ēa (many of these shifts mirror Proto-Ntg > Modern Ntg changes)

new ē from compensatory lengthening/new short versions of long vowels from umlaut/coloring/...

Phonology

Modern Nurian has a typologically unusual distinction between dental and alveolar stops and between many types of fricatives:

  • t d = alveolar stops
  • th = alveolar spirants (slit fricatives, often pronounced as Welsh ll)
  • þ đ = (unaspirated) dental stops
  • þh = dental spirants
  • s z = dental/alveolar sibilants
  • ṡ ż = postalvelar sibilants

Vowels: <a e i/y o u æ ie ea eo> /A e i o u æ iə~y ea eo~ø/ all with short and long counterparts
