Etymology
From aka (“eye”) + the suffix -in-. A similar way of creating word for spectacles is found in both Baltic (Lithuanian akiniai, Latvian dialectal acenes) and Slavic (Russian очки́ (očki), Macedonian о́чила (očila), Slovene očala).
