From Old Aeranir sateros, from Proto-Iscaric *s̠at̪eros̠, from Proto-Maro-Ephenian *tkħ̩ʷ-t̪éro-ɕ, from root *tekħʷ- ("night, darkness"). Cognate with Dalitian ktotherós.
