From Old Aeranir rex, from Proto-Iscaric *reɣʷis̠, reformed as an i-stem adjective from **reɣus, from Proto-Maro-Ephenian *r₂r₁egʰ-. Compare with rignun, argeor.

Cognate with Dalitian árakhus, árakhros, arakheĩs, Stiric ṛghuḥ, ṛhāyati, rāhayati, and Old Marian arguš, arǰāyatiy, rāǰayatiy.
