The High and Low Burgundian dialects both feature historic diphthongs, which were merged to /u/ and /i/ in other dialects, along with the presence of /y/ in the place of earlier /iu/. High Burgundian features the High German consonant shift, as in the Alpine dialect, whereas the Low Burgundian dialect does not.
