The Carpathians (sometimes the spelling variant: Karpathians; Carpathian: Karpātinīs; Ukrainian: Horiany, Werchowyńci; Polish: Karpaccy, Górale Karpacki; Romanian: Mureșeni, Carpațeni; Czech: Vrchovinci) are an Eastern European ethnic group spanning parts of the Czech Republic (Slovakia), southern Poland and western Ukraine (Galicia) and northern Romania (Maramureş). They have often been officially and administratively designated as an indigenous ethnic group of the Carpathian Mountains.
