Zoom musicians use 7 note subsets at a time, often built by stacking neutral thirds (~ 360 cents). Modulations to other keys may also be used. However, depending on the village, natives may not tune in 10 exactly equal steps.
The scales are given below in scales, with their approximate pitches based on C. (+ = half sharp, d = half flat)
The five "basic" modes are:
- 2 1 2 1 2 1 1 (≈ C D+ Ed F# G Bdb B C)
- 2 1 2 1 1 2 1 (≈ C D+ Ed F# G Ad B C)
- 2 1 1 2 1 2 1 (≈ C D+ Ed F G Ad B C)

However there are some altered modes.
