Weddish
Etymology
From Old Frisian hwet, from Proto-Germanic *hwaz, from Proto-Indo-European kʷos
Pronunciation
(Weddish) IPA: /ʍaː/
Pronoun
וְהַא (wha')
- who, interrogative animate pronoun
- who, relative animate pronoun
Usage Notes
As a kind of adnominal, the relative pronoun usages of והא are a sort of adjective, and must come after the noun they modify. However, the interrogative uses are not so. Weddish typically follows wh- in situ, which means means questions do not rearrange the sentence word order. Because inanimate nouns cannot be ergative, this means that "who" will typically follow the verb, where English would put it first.
