From a merger of Old Tefrian ḥ- (/ḥa-/) and ḫ- (/ḫe-/), from Proto-West Asisic *ḥa- and *ḫe-, from Proto-Asisic *ḥan- and *ḫi-.

From Old Tefrian -ḥ (/-aḥ/), from Proto-West Asisic *-aḥ, from Proto-Asisic *-aḥ. Originally a collective number ending that degrammaticalized and narrowed to refer to groups of people, then to the places said people inhabit.
