Eorzean

Pronunciation

  • (Standard Eorzean) IPA: [neɾov]

Etymology

From Lominsan neruv, influenced by Midlander neroɣefa. Both of these derive from Allagan nérogev "spoken". This comes from an unusual derivation in late Amaurotine, where the patient adjective prefix wŋe- was added to derive an agent noun from ɬɔɣɛv "to speak" to describe creations with the capacity for language. Other words following this pattern indicate a use of patient prefixes as dative prefixes (i.e. the correct gloss should be "spoken to"), but this is not certain.

Noun

  1. Spoken, sapient being, person

Notes

Note that this is more broad than erfon, which refers to humans (those races that have continuity with the Ancients), or to the Ancients themselves, specifically.
