From Middle Skundavisk slagen, from Old Skundavisk slahan, from Halmisk ᛊᛚᚨᚻᚨᚾ (slahan), from Proto-Germanic *slahaną. The /h/>/g/ shift didn't happen everywhere, hence the dialectal slån form.
