From Middle Skundavisk last, from Old Skundavisk lastu, hlastu, from Halmisk ᚻᛚᚨᛊᛏᚢ (hlastu), ᚻᛚᚨᛊᛏᚢᛉ (hlastuŕ), from Proto-Germanic *hlastuz.
