This Proto-Coelo-Caric entry contains reconstructed words and roots. As such, the term(s) in this entry are not directly attested, but are hypothesized to have existed based on comparative evidence.

Proto-Coelo-Caric

Alternative forms

  • *tʃa

Etymology

Possibly related to Proto-Coelo-Caric *čenta ("land"). It is uncertain whether this root was a verb or a noun. In Silōs, it survives only in compounds and is therefore not clarified in this question, and in Carichendan, the familiar -era suffix of agency was appended, suggesting it was a verb in Pre-Carichendan, but also possibly reflecting an alteration to distinguish it from a homophone such as cha ("but").

Verb

*ča

  1. to house, to be familiar or comfortable, to be shelter for

Descendants

  • Old Silōs: *ǯa ǯenta ("the earth" < "home land")
  • Old Silōs: *ǯa sutixa
  • Old Silōs: *ǯa xōlul
  • Old Carichendan: chera (<*ča *-era)
    • Modern Carichendan: chera
