From Old Tevrés çeira from Aeranir coeñar (“language”), reanalysed plural of coeña ("word"), from Proto-Iscaric kʷoiɲā, from PME kweiñ ("to say, to speak"). Compare with queñir ("to love"). Cognate with S'entigneis çoire, çoyers, Ilesse chaira, chañarei.
