Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Korinthic *níos (man, person), from Proto-Indo-Korinthic root *ní- (to do with people). Compare Korstek ňa (man), ňes (woman), and ňos (person).

Pronunciation

(Knašta) IPA: /ɲos/

Noun

ňos

  1. person
    Joj ǰin al ňos
    I am a person.

Inflection

When ňos is used with the suffixes -alí (any) or -réjetsí (none), it becomes pértsona (/pertsona/).

Examples: Pértsona-réjetsí-otré til-gróþ (Nobody else will go)

Prefix

ňos

  1. used to form an agentive noun along with the suffix ský when the agent is a person.
    DŽin al ňostravek-ský
    I am a worker.

Inflection

In words using ňos as a prefix, the plural marker may sometimes follow the ňos prefix instead of coming at the end of the word.

In general, unless the agentive suffix -ský is also present, the plural marker follows the ňos. In cases where ňos is used to indicate nationality, it remains lower-case at all times.

Examples

ňossinǴalja-ins

Ňossinňossin
Men of the people (les hommes du peuple)

Ňostravek-ský-sin
