From vingor ("I am wet, I am fertile (of soil)"), from Old Aeranir vingōr, from Proto-Iscaric *wenɣōr, from Proto-Maro-Ephenian *wegh- ("wet, moist; rain"). Compare with vēsciȥ ("I get wet, I moisten").
