From Old Tefrian fy (/vē/), from Proto-Tephricheic *we, from Proto-Asisic *we (compare Proto-Indo-European *wéy). Cognate with West Achissari ون (wen), East Achissari ون (wen), Vancian ne, Bulusic nöz, Nyongom наа (naa), Dovasene ге (ge), and Khbirye ზი (zi), also distantly related to descendants of Proto-Indo-European *wéy, such as English we, French nous, Irish sinn, Greek εμείς (emeís), Russian мы (my), and Armenian մենք (menkʻ).
