Pronunciation
Verb
dīnagon (first-person singular present indicative dīnan, first-person singular present subjunctive dīnon, perfect participle dīna)
- to put, to place
- to wed, to perform the marriage ceremony
Usage notes
Sense 1: the meaning is narrowed to the act of placing something where it belongs or where it is intended, e.g. to put on socks on feet.
Sense 2: dīnagon is subtly different from idīnagon. The former focuses in one of the wedded, as in
- Ao ynoma dīnilūks?
- Will you marry me?
while the latter refers to the general act of wedding, as in
- Abre se vale idīntaksi.
- The man and the woman married.
- (literally, “were married”)
Both are usually used in the passive.
