Etymology
From Old Grekelin ζ̌ω (zhō), possibly borrowed from Pre-Grekelin dialects in the very early stages of the language. Alternatively borrowed from the Slavic dialects in the south.
The verb itself comes from Ancient Greek ζῶ (zô), and as such is cognate with Latin vīvō, Russian жить (zhit').
