The World and the Epires
The world is divided into different subdivisions, hereby known as epires (< Greek ἤπειρος).
Each epire may correspond to a contiguous stretch of land (e.g. a continent), to an area with a significant historical or cultural complex, or to some other arbitrary distinction.
The lands of Umdur (Umdāw)
The peoples of the land of Umdur claim heritage from a mythical progenitor, Um. Um was said to bring many a diverse people together, but was slain by a member of the Ušite dynasty (of the Assites) as part of an coup to bring stability and protection to the people of the land. However, the Assites failed to gain total control, even if they are the strongest regional power.
North
- The Kingdom of Ābšim (NW): prosperous kingdom well-stocked in bronze, and financed by gold, founded by the tribes of Āb.
- The Ābites are generally unaligned in conflict, to the point of apparent indifference
- The Assite Empire (N, NE): a burgeoning empire, founded by King Uš and his son Uštandar. Ruled by Assites, has control over Banšim.. Occasionally called Uššim, either out or respect or disparagingly.
- The Assites have de facto control of most of Umdur, with the Adunites being the main opposing element in the region
Banšim(NE): a historic seat of power for the region which extended influence over all of Umdur in the earlier times. The Nātite dynasty was strongly associated with the Banites, and was married into the Ušite dynasty of the Assite Empire after Banšim's conquest.
East
- Cities of Adun: loosely associated cities, founded by the Adunites.
- There are frequent skirmishes between the Adunites and Assites; presumably the Adunites escape the wrath of the Assites by being vast in number and highly militarised.
Center
- Cities of Mazugād: loosely associated cities, founded by the tribes of Mad.
- The Madanites are rather neutral, but will tend to side with the Assites in any major conflict.
West
- Kāzzan: coastal kingdom inhabited by the Adunite remnant. Culturally quite malleable.
South
- Kingdom of Dāgšim (SW): mercantile kingdom, counterpart to the Northerly Abšim, founded by the tribes of Dāg. Alternatively called Nitwān.
- The Dāgites are generally unaligned in conflict, but may be secretly supplying the Adunites.
- Kalšim (SE): unaffiliated tribes, bolstered in numbers by the refugees of various conflicts in the region. Semi-nomadic.
- The Kalšim are generally not well trusted due to a lack of a permanent territory of their own.
