From Middle Primorskian dien, From Old Primorskian *den, From Proto-Balto-Slavic (compare Proto-Slavic *dьnь) from Proto-Indo-European *déi-no-, ultimately from *dyew-, *dyeu- (“to shine”). Baltic cognates include Aukštaitian, Lithuanian and Latvian diena, Samogitian dėina and Old Prussian dēinā.
