Etymology

From Old Tefrian ċš (/ċuš/), from Proto-Tephricheic *ċuš, from Proto-Asisic *iḳušṯ. Cognate with West Achissari جس (jas), East Achissari څس (jˀos), Vancian , Bulusic şű, Nyongom ишис (išis), Dovasene ыкус (ykus), and Khbirye ახს (axs), also distantly related to descendants of Proto-Indo-European *oḱtṓw, such as English eight, French huit, Irish ocht, Greek οκτώ (októ), Russian восемь (vosemʹ), and Armenian ութ (utʻ), and to descendants of Proto-Kartvelian *otxo-, such as Georgian ოთხი (otxi) and Laz ოთხო (otxo).
