From Old Tefrian pˤs (/ṗõˤVs/), from Proto-Tephricheic *ṗųˤųs, from Proto-Asisic *ṗunḫuns. Cognate with West Achissari بوم (bum), East Achissari ڀم (bˀom), Vancian pih, Bulusic pű, Nyongom пих (pih), Dovasene пунс (puns), and Khbirye ფუნს (puns), also likely to be distantly related to descendants of Proto-Indo-European *pénkʷe, such as English five, French cinq, Irish cúig, Greek πέντε (pénte), Russian пять (pjatʹ), and Armenian հինգ (hing).
