From Old Tefrian pˤs (/ṗõˤVs/), from Proto-Tephricheic *ṗųˤųs, from Proto-Asisic *ṗunḫuns. Cognate with West Achissari بوم (bum), East Achissari ڀم (bˀom), Vancian pih, Bulusic , Nyongom пих (pih), Dovasene пунс (puns), and Khbirye ფუნს (puns), also likely to be distantly related to descendants of Proto-Indo-European *pénkʷe, such as English five, French cinq, Irish cúig, Greek πέντε (pénte), Russian пять (pjatʹ), and Armenian հինգ (hing).
