Greatbuddha makes a few great points. My personal trick for this is to try to imitate an orthography of a language that I really like, be it a conlang or natlang, and make a completely different grammar. Think of it as a car, you paint it, add a few features, but under the bonnet, no one grasps its complexity!
I'd say you should do this: Take a shorter text and then semi-translate it into a few different sketchlangs, all of them with different orthographies and phonologies, then see which one you like the best, or mix them up!
