Alternative Forms
Hanmun: 촛 ; Latin: cou; unacceptable: 鸟
Pronunciation
(Dan'a'yo) IPA: /cow/
Originally (in MC) pronounced with a 't-' initial (compare 島 ("island")), but in many dialects changed to a “n-” initial to avoid homophony with 屌 ("penis"). The Japanese pronunciation was chosen because 'dau' was too full.
Noun
- bird
- Westerns should be careful not to use this word as a preposition. That effect can be achieved with syang'o/上於.
