Language infobox color
Hey, stuff is happening on my end so I'm not able to post much. I've noticed it's kind of quiet though, anything I could do to give it a kick that doesn't invovle a great deal of creative power on my end? Or is there quiet stuff going on that I haven't noticed?
Hello. I seem to be unable to change the color of my conlang's infobox, is there a trick to it?

Also, I recall you mentioned something about original literature or some contest for that which I could at least try or help endorse.
Ooops!  Misplaced Page
Hi Chrysophylax,

:I'm a a bit busy as well until at least mid June, so I'll be a bit quiet as well. Well, you could spread the word ;)
Apologies, I goofed when I was making an IPA template for the vowels in Nankôre. Now when I go to the Templates page I see "Nankôre" but I don't see the name for the template, which is "Nankore_Vowels_IPA". Could you please help me and remove "Nankôre" from the Templates page and replace it with "Nankore_Vowels_IPA"? I know I successfully created the template, because it appears on my conlang's page when I call the template.
:I will look into the library idea later! -- <span style="color: #3366BB ;">Chrysophylax</span> 00:40, 8 June 2013 (CEST)

We do have literature category for conlangs :) Feel free to add things to it, preferably things that gives a challenge in translation or things you plan on translating yourself. &nbsp;<span style="color:#800080;">Emperor Zelos</span> 10:54, 8 June 2013 (CEST)
Thanks!!

Yeah, I've already taken advantage of that. I think you, myself and GreatBuddha [who is primarily on wikia due to simpler table interface and more activity] are the only ones using it and I'm the only one with original works in written in my language [though you and GB may have translated it yourselves]. I'd like to see a competition or some sort of stronger incentive for short stories/poems in order to draw people out and encourage them to try and use their languages to their fullest extent and share it with the rest of us, because in the words of Tolkien;  "Volapük, Esperanto, Ido, Novial, &c, &c, are dead, far deader than ancient unused languages, because their authors never invented any Esperanto legends".
~~Anyar~~

Even if it would only lead to small things like short stories, myths and rhymes that are only a few paragraphs long, it will help people get a fuller feel for the language and would make it easier for us to pick featured langs in the future.
Subcategory for Czecklish
-Cheers, Fauxlosophe (talk) 03:37, 11 June 2013 (CEST)
Can you make a subcategory for my conlang Czecklish? I have three separate articles for it, and it's getting hard to manage them. There will likely be three or four more articles concerning Czecklish in the future. I believe it would be more convenient for Linguifex visitors and users to view Czecklish and its various articles if it had a subcategory, like Khaz or Valian.

Whist I approve of this project of yours, I disapprove of the intermixing of constructed language literature and the natural language texts. Texts in the previously pseudo-namespace "Translation", such as "The Tower of Babel" are in my opinion not to be categorised under the literature banner; they serve a different purpose, since they exist to promote the conlangers' translations of the same texts, for comparison.
:::I decided to discontinue Netagin... it struck me as too much an ad-hoc hodgepodge. Though features from it will be absorbed into my other languages. In passing, what do you think about partaking in Linguifex Relay the Fourth (prematurely)? IlL (talk) 01:17, 30 October 2014 (CET)

People are more inclined to translate non-conlang literature, and many of the texts have become an institution to translate, say "Babel" and "The Lord's Prayer". There is a big chance that the literature category texts will live up to their name and simple be stored in the library for interested people to read. I therefore object to the intermixture of the two namespaces.
::::Ah, I know that feeling. I would be okay with that! -- <span style="color: #3366BB ;">Χρυσοφύλαξ</span> 01:42, 30 October 2014 (CET)

Concerning the Fourth Linguifex Relay
:I understand your concerns, yet I am not so sure creating another namespace is the way to go. I do not think creating 'translation only' and a 'conlang-only texts' would be beneficial, as it would split up text content (intended for translation) unnecessarily with prefixes when a simple category such as :Category:Translation exercises would do. I, following on what I perceive to be Fauxlosophe's intent, feel that both texts from natlangs and conlangs should be encouraged to be translated. Thus, separating it into a whole new namespace feels a bit overkill. I mean, it's literature. To assuage fears of conlangers not translating texts, I have started writing a few templates to "single out" the standard texts for translation.
Since Dē Graut Bʉr hasn't shown any signs of activity, I'm passing the relay to you.

:I have also modified a few templates to allow one to add one's language from the get-go as seen on Ishtar spoke to her father. It's not perfect as it currently just preloads the whole page but in a subpage, but it should help encourage people to translate texts. I also intend on adding a large section to Literature:Portal regarding translations, clarifying, and encouraging users to translate.
Fo hoinga fatipu
:Currently, I've styled my translation-encouragement-pages on The Lord's Prayer example, not on the Little Red Riding Hood. I would like it if you gave some input on http://linguifex.com/index.php?title=Special:WikiForum&thread=30.

It seems Waahlis has not completed his whisper in time. Will you pass the relay to the next person? IlL (talk) 15:59, 16 July 2015 (CEST)

I still do, yes. However, I cannot be bothered to revert all you changes now. Please see my reply on the matter of individual translated subpages. :I like the feel of the library and can see some definite strengths, but my intent was to find ways to encourage others to write original literature. I have to admit, I do really like the idea of breaking things down into glosses and translating what can be translated between conlangs; it creates a sense of shared community between our conlangs, however it wasn't my intent.
:Done -- <span style="color: #3366BB ;">Χρυσοφύλαξ</span> 16:23, 16 July 2015 (CEST)

:I hoped to encourage con-texts with competitions, discussions in the forum and maybe some sort of mini-featuring on the main page like the audio for Kihammic. Most conlangs I've seen with poems/texts look like the lang was built around the poem and offer little actual info on the lang, while many very detailed languages here have little to no original text. I take a lot of my conlanging philosophy off of Tolkien and I think a conlang without a history and stories feels a little empty to me, so I'd love to see the wiki take steps in this direction. The "library" category elevates original work to an equal level is good for that [better than seeing it crammed in the back recesses anyway] which is what I thought your intent was. I'm a bit impartial towards a redivision but I really want to encourage a bit more exposure towards the original texts that were written, because compared to "translations", the "literature" category was a bit less visible and much less filled.
Can you do me a favor?
:So a challenge or competition there would be welcome [I'd try to come back and compose something new for it] since it would get people thinking/working outside of the linguist box and into the pretty words box. I'll sketch out something more detailed on the forums. I sort of like the Library tab but I do understand Waahlis' objections and I am content either way, though some nudges encourage people to translate eachother's works [once we have a few featured on here] might be worth a go.

I have started, an almost finished, a new Main page. The old one broke when zoomed, was already too large for the window in certain browsers, and did not work at all on mobile devices.
If I make a mistake and create a page that is clearly stupid, how do I tag it for deletion?  I don't have the power and it doesn't seem right to bug specific people to delete a specific page. == Infobox language ==

So, I recently noticed that I'm prevented from editing templates that're transcluded on the main page, specifically Template:Infobox language and its subpages, and I was wondering either 1. if there's a way to work around this, 2. if you could turn-off cascading for the main page, or 3. if I could be given permission to edit these pages? If you just don't want non-admins editing these pages, that's completely fine too, but please let me know. -User:Учхљёная (talk, conlangs, edits). 18:20, 19 January 2019 (CET).

Hello,

:Salve, o augustissime artifex!
</del>I'm quite new here in Linguifex and I did a (or two) mistake(s).
:I must say, it looks very, very, cool. The only thing I would seek to comment is the "header" or "banner". It seems a tad lifeless/colourless compared to the previous page. I also miss the distinctiveness of the "Languages"-tab which is now just a common button. I think it looked a little better being a tad more prominent before. Easy to find for the user. But yes, I agree with Faux, no longer will I get weird overlays when zooming! -- <span style="color: #3366BB ;">Chrysophylax</span> 23:24, 5 July 2013 (CEST)
1. At updating a image which shows ,,Zimâna Ħāwārî (translates to ,,Hawari language")" in my newly invented Ṭoňżeĝâyî script, it always shows the former version of the image where I set the direction so: top to bottom, right to left, even if it should be left to right. To fix that issue, I would like to let it be deleted, and I don't know how one does it.
2. This mistake is less important to fix: Instead of giving my article title the name ,,Hawari language" I just wrote ,,Hawari". If possible, would you be able to change it?</del>

Thank you and have a good day👋🏼

I know, I'll take a look at the banner yet again. And I too miss the big, big link to all languages, but some sacrifices had to be made. On the other hand, the buttons do make the other links a bit more prominent; less i skymundan. ==Relays==
Lost Conlangs
Hey,
Hi. A while ago a user on Frathwiki started a project to try and rescue info about conlangs that had been stored on Langmaker in the 2000s, gone down with it but was retrievable via the Web Archive copies of Langmaker. They got so far then drifted off. I'm volunteering to start it again, and I also want to make my own (privately run but publicly accessible) list of the world's conlangs (probably in spreadsheet and searchable database form). I want to combine the jobs to reduce work time; I also think it would be good to have the same info in different places (as what was so unfortunate about Langmaker going down was so much of its info was not stored elsewhere). So I was wondering, would you be interested in allowing similar records of such langs here? I'm guessing not on account of your "non-sufficient content/long inactivity" deletion rule plus high style standards etc. However even if not how about a single page (/multiple if running over) with a name and barest details? I'd be prepared to do all the work, although help would certainly be appreciated. :)

Hello Chrysophylax, <br>
I've made a few edits to the aUI page, but after hours of trying cannot make all the citations show up in the Reference list (also, there's no "Cite" menu item like in the main Wikipedia). I've compared them with the apparently original ones in Wikipedia and they seem exactly the same to me. As you can see, I'm getting these error messages:

A few favours
Hey,

I just touched up Cwengâr's page significantly, so it no longer reads like "Just like Fén except for these changes". My main goal with these pages is to make the language accessible and useable to someone willing to leaf through the page momentarily while they look up words. To that end could you do me a few favours in that regard; the first being to simply skim the page and offer advice where you can on improving it and the other being; would you be willing to try writing a sample of whatever you like based off the page and tell me any difficulties you encountered? I don't like imposing my lang on others but I could use perspective on what needs to be made clearer. Lastly, do you know the history of the Irish Broad/Slender development? Is it just a very consistant sound change rule of these letters infront of Soft and Hard vowels? I've peaked around a few times to try and figure out the story but the best guess I have is that it's the hard/soft C and G rule applied most of the letters in the language. If you know any more than that I'd really appreciate it,

Thanks

:From what I can remember from reading about the Goidelic languages, the development of full on palatalisation contrast happened somewhere between Primitive Irish and Early Old Irish and has to do with well consonants acquiring a palatal secondary articulation near front vowels. It's a very similar process to what happened in many Romance languages (<c> = [t͡ʃ ~ ʃ ~ s ~ θ ~ k ~ kʲ] as you rightly mentioned but more pervasive, think Russian (which has slender vs broad in most consonants – they only term it soft vs hard) and other Slavic languages! I will take a proper look at Cwengâr now and comment on its talk page when done. But yeah, if you wanted to simulate a similar development in Cwengâr then reading up historic sound changes near front vowels could be a good tip. -- <span style="color: #3366BB ;">Chrysophylax</span> 17:54, 20 August 2013 (CEST)

The wikilink on your userpage is broken. Also, I must admit that I had always assumed Estonian was the Cousin that the Finnish kept in the closet and only fed after dark. My Lithuanian friend seems more than happy to confirm this theory, but he is happy to confirm horrible things about every Eastern European Country, including horrible things that contradict eachother.

I see no translation or means of deriving "täsarma". I have guesses but solely on the basis of context in the poem.

I'm extremely sorry, it seems I accidentally deleted the entry when I did some editing. Of course, I did not see it missing when I looked through. I've updated the Valian page. I guessed it correctly then. I'd love you to give comment on my retranslation and gloss though. I feel like I had to change a fair bit here and there since some Cwengâr words lacked the same double meanings but I think I got the general feel while aspiring to at least get some sort of metre/pattern. I know I butchered it but I want to know how much.-Fauxlosophe (talk) 19:47, 4 September 2013 (CEST)

:Only mildly! A lot of the meaning comes from the double meanings that the words have, peadid referring to both the concrete and the metaphorical ('cause Cwetŷl's coming) and there's a general saudade-ish feel permeating the whole, especially considering the line västamma aura which refers both to the annual aspect and well, life in general. But, I guess it could not be helped, translation always loses a bit of nuance ;) --- <span style="color: #3366BB ;">Chrysophylax</span> 20:04, 4 September 2013 (CEST)

:I saw a lot of the double meanings and said to myself I could probably force it with some neologism or adding new meaning but it felt like cheating. I think I got as much as I could without that and as Waahlis said, gave it some significance in its own mythology and world. Even if no one else understands it; O! Language infobox color

Hello. I seem to be unable to change the color of my conlang's infobox, is there a trick to it?

Ooops! Misplaced Page

Hi Chrysophylax,

Apologies, I goofed when I was making an IPA template for the vowels in Nankôre. Now when I go to the Templates page I see "Nankôre" but I don't see the name for the template, which is "Nankore_Vowels_IPA". Could you please help me and remove "Nankôre" from the Templates page and replace it with "Nankore_Vowels_IPA"? I know I successfully created the template, because it appears on my conlang's page when I call the template.

Thanks!!

Subcategory for Czecklish

Can you make a subcategory for my conlang Czecklish? I have three separate articles for it, and it's getting hard to manage them. There will likely be three or four more articles concerning Czecklish in the future. I believe it would be more convenient for Linguifex visitors and users to view Czecklish and its various articles if it had a subcategory, like Khaz or Valian.

Infobox language

So, I recently noticed that I'm prevented from editing templates that're transcluded on the main page, specifically Template:Infobox language and its subpages, and I was wondering either 1. if there's a way to work around this, 2. if you could turn-off cascading for the main page, or 3. if I could be given permission to edit these pages? If you just don't want non-admins editing these pages, that's completely fine too, but please let me know. -User:Учхљёная (talk, conlangs, edits). 18:20, 19 January 2019 (CET).

Hi, that sounds perfectly reasonable. I will investigate this weekend if there's something we can do technically to allow safe users to edit high-frequency templates --Admin.png Χρυσοφύλαξ 14:35, 22 January 2019 (CET)
I've disabled cascading protection for now. Hopefully it won't bite the wiki in its bum. --Admin.png Χρυσοφύλαξ 00:03, 24 February 2020 (UTC)

Deletion of Template:LangAbb

Template:LangAbb was deleted, breaking functionality of Template:Etym, which is used in various Contionary entries. I do not ask it be reinstated, but I would like to have access to its history so that I can view its interface and update Etym to use Template:ISO. Nevermind, I figured it out, the template is back in working order

Deletion of an image and changing of a page title

Hello,

I'm quite new here in Linguifex and I did a (or two) mistake(s). If possible, would you be able to change it?

Thank you and have a good day👋🏼

Update (01.05.2020, 17:29 UTC): Thank you for fixing these two issues.😀

Yours sincerely, MansenBk (talk) 16:27, 1 May 2020 (UTC).

Lost Conlangs

:) Matthew McVeagh (talk) 04:32, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

If you keep it on one page that'd be fine Admin.png Χρυσοφύλαξ 07:32, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

Tahano Hikamu font

Hi! I've been tinkering around lately with Ayeri entries. As you probably know, Ayeri is written in this quite-Brahmic script called Tahano Hikamu. The creator of Ayeri, Carsten Becker, created a font for it and released it. I've been wondering if it'd be possible for you or any administrator to add this font to Linguifex so I can use it. Since it's based on SIL Graphite engine, the font declaration must use the .ttf file, not .woff. Thanks! Cheers, sware • 🗣 • 🏲 15:17, 25 June 2022 (UTC)
